Is life taking over your life? Here's how to start creating a routine

Hey there! I'm back! For the past month, it has felt like life has been taking over my life, ya feel me? Life can be overwhelming a lot of the time for most people. We get caught up in doing what needs to be done and end up not having enough time or energy to actually do things we enjoy. Other times, we barely get the necessities done and have a hard time making it through the day.

Over the past few months, my salon and spa has been in the midst of renovation. This has left me with a decent amount of business necessities to accomplish, but other than that, I don't have many things that I have to get done each day. If you know me, you know that I will always find something to do, especially if it is something in my life that I can improve on. I will keep myself busy with small things until it is too much to keep up with each day because I am looking for a sense of purpose in the meantime.. but aren't we all? Other than working on my business (which entails a vast amount by itself), I have decided to further my education with some training courses, focus on Beautycounter (a clean beauty brand that I am able to run as a small business), focus on my plants, start yoga/exercising again, along with many other activities.

During this past week, I told myself that I need to create a routine, otherwise I'll be spending my days like I have been which has consisted of me getting random things done with no real structure in my day. The thing is, days like this are fine to have, but when you're business isn't going to be ready for another month and you do this every day... that's when I know I need to change something. Keep in mind, this is just my personal preference and that everyone is different! Some people can treat every day randomly and that's amazing, but for those of you that are like me that need a little structure, this post is for you.

Routine Making Formula

So how do we even go about creating a routine? Well, I take things I need to

get done (non-negotiables) + things I want to get done (not pressed on time) + things I enjoy + things that are good for me. I have also learned recently that it is good to do something for your mind, body and soul each day.

Now that we know this, let's create a routine for the day! I'm going to use times to help you understand the layout, although times aren't always necessary for a daily routine. Also I am adding going to the coffee shop in my routine because that's actually what I want to do tomorrow, but I usually make my own. My routines are all depending on the day and what I have going on that day. So tomorrow, I don't have many pressing matters; it's a chill day.

Tuesday, August 30th

8:30 AM - wake up, drink water, brush teeth, skincare, change (I find that when I change sooner rather than later, it forces me to get my day going and to actually do things)

9:15 AM - journal / gratitude / meditate (I would consider this my "soul" task)

9:30 AM - head to coffee shop and work on training, drink coffee, eat bfast

10:45 AM - head back home and do yoga / stretch (I would consider this my"body" task)

12 PM - clean / organize / check on plants / paint (I enjoy these things)

1 PM - lunch

2 PM - read (I would consider this your "mind" task)

3 PM - go to parents house and work on more business stuff / blog / social media post

4:30 PM - hang out with mom and cook dinner

7-8 PMish - head back to my apartment

8:30 PM - shower and get ready for bed

9:00 PM - chill

So as you can see, I have a lot in my schedule, but I don't at the same time. This is just ONE example of what a routine can look like for me. Tomorrow I don't have any pressing matters that I have to get done, whereas other days I do. I hope that if you struggle with a routine that you found this helpful!

Be sure to take the poll at the bottom about your routine preference!

Until next time,

Katy
